Glasgow’s new and inspiring Tech event launches innovative programme

Digital DNA Glasgow 2022, the innovative new tech event that will be hosted at the SEC on Wednesday 28 September, has today announced an exciting schedule of events.

The one-day event, which is set to be a hub of innovation and collaboration for Scotland’s tech, digital and creative industries, has confirmed an inspirational line-up of more than 30 talks and 55 industry thought-leading speakers who will cover topics including space tech and fintech, as well as the creative and gaming industries.

Confirming Jamie Bartlett as a keynote speaker, the event is set to welcome the world-renowned author, journalist and presenter to the main stage to talk about his forthcoming book that chronicles one of the most shocking financial scandals in history. Entitled The Missing Cryptoqueen, a multi-billion dollar crypto-ponzi scam, the book investigates the OneCoin boss Dr Ruja Ignatova who is now on the FBI’s Top 10 most wanted list. Bartlett will use examples from his new book to draw out lessons for the wider IT community and sketch out the future of online crime and what can be done to tackle it.

One of the opening speeches will come from Peter Chernyshov and Russell Dalgleish who will be discussing the challenges facing Ukrainian Tech Companies and the support provided by Scotland.

Successful international Ukrainian investor Peter Chernyshov chose to relocate to Scotland over a decade ago. Since the outbreak in Ukraine he has been heavily involved in supporting not only refugees fleeing Ukraine but also tech entrepreneurs in his home land. During this main stage interview carried out by Scottish Business Network Chairman Russell Dalgleish the audience will learn about leading tech innovation from Ukraine, conditions in Ukraine today and the part Scotland has to play here.

Another talk will come from Chris Newlands of Spelfie, who is one of the UK’s most connected entrepreneurs in the events, technology, and space sectors. In December 2021, he was placed 4th in the world’s top 10 space entrepreneurs list, beaten only by Branson, Musk and Bezos. He will share his vast knowledge of space tech with the DDNA audiences and reveal the exciting business opportunities there are in relation to space, and how Scotland can best take advantage.

Fiona McKinnon, CEO and co-founder of Moment Company, the outfit passionate about sharing the benefits of taking mindful moments throughout the busy working day to improve mental fitness, mindset control, and to build happier healthier lives, will also address the Digital DNA Glasgow audience. This talk will be an exploration into better understanding how everyone can use simple and quick techniques to help them recharge and reset during busy or stressful days.

Alongside these industry thought leaders will be talks from their peers at Akari Solutions, Ardmore Advertising, Barclay Eagle Labs, Brillbrand, Bruntwood SciTech, Codebase, Corby, Glasgow Science Centre, Google, Greenbackers, Made Brave, No Code Studio, Pulsion, Scotland Women in Technology, Tag Digital and the University of Glasgow.

The event will also feature a startup village showcasing 14 high-potential startups and scaleups, including Glasgow-based web design agency Ngage Technology, student-driven software engineering company Loopsio, and Brillband – who aim to roll out their planet-friendly full-fibre broadband network across the UK, starting with Glasgow and Renfrewshire.

Also exhibiting are Changingday, a VR company based in the centre of Glasgow who create immersive experiences tailored towards people with autism, alongside new exciting businesses Forumm, Raven Controls, Continulus, Gigged.AI, Ujali, Pulse Market, EOLAS Insight, Krucial, Travvly, and Unbagged.

Digital DNA Glasgow 2022 will provide attendees with insight and access to the latest innovations and trends from across the global tech ecosystem, encouraging them to collaborate and challenge conventional thinking and forge a network of ambitious and innovative like-minded individuals in an inclusive environment.

Expected to attract audiences from right across the Scottish tech ecosystem, organisers hope the first ever Digital DNA Glasgow event will inspire participants to uncover new opportunities for partnership within the sector, explore new career paths and help show businesses how they can use technology to grow.

Attendees are encouraged to immerse themselves in the Digital DNA experience and spend the day exploring what’s on offer in a way that’s unique and most effective for them, with free tickets available to secure now at http://63.33.112.3/digital-dna-glasgow-2022/#/.

The event will focus on multi-disciplinary collaboration and hopes to welcome the Scottish tech diaspora back to Glasgow to experience the vibrancy within the industry at home.

Digital DNA Glasgow 2022 is organised by Northern Irish media, publishing and events company Digital DNA who have been running the conference in Ireland since 2013, growing from a one-day event with 200 people, to a two-day multi-discipline event with more than 3,000 attendees.

Digital DNA Belfast has grown into the largest gathering of the tech ecosystem in Northern Ireland and has helped support the growth of the regional ecosystem into one of the most vibrant and exciting in the UK and Ireland. The organisers intend on replicating this successful formula in Glasgow and to provide the vital social infrastructure for the rapidly growing tech and digital ecosystem across Scotland.

Digital DNA CEO Simon Bailie said: “We’re delighted to unveil the programme for Scotland’s first-ever Digital DNA event, which is bursting with talent from so many facets of the tech sector. With more than 30 talks and 55 speakers presenting throughout the day, this one-day event will be a platform for the tech ecosystem in the region to gather, share ideas, hear from thought leaders and really demonstrate the potential and diversity of the Scottish digital scene. The event is free to attend and we hope to welcome many tech and creative enthusiasts through the SEC doors at the end of the month.”

The event is backed by the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council, who recognise the importance of supporting and accelerating a vibrant technology ecosystem in the city and beyond.

A Scottish Government spokesperson said: “In order to grow our tech sector, create a world-class entrepreneurial infrastructure and transform our economy over the next decade; we have to make the best use of Scotland’s networks and diaspora, to boost our profile and help attract talent and investment. That’s why we are pleased to support Digital DNA’s inaugural event this year.”

Councillor Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “The tech sector is a growing and key part of Glasgow’s economy – as witnessed by the significant investment being made here by local, national and international companies that has led to 34,000 jobs in the city, so Digital DNA is a great fit for us.  The event will provide a fantastic opportunity for the sector in Glasgow and Scotland to come together to learn from other people in their fields to help drive the continued and future growth of our tech companies and organisations.”
