Tech Champions comic to showcase NI tech-related careers and pathways

TECH CHAMPIONS, an exciting tech-themed careers comic set to launch soon, will be celebrated at a school-focused event on Thursday 10th March as part of Derry & Strabane Enterprise Week.

The innovative comic, aimed at young people, will showcase six local tech professionals and entrepreneurs and the pathways they took to develop their tech-related careers or businesses.

The TECH CHAMPIONS event on the 10th March will bring the tech professionals illustrated in the comic to life!

In a live streamed and in-person event, those local tech professionals and entrepreneurs will chat about their own varied backgrounds and journeys in the tech sector, with the aim of highlighting the diverse range of tech careers and opportunities which exist locally.

TECH CHAMPIONS is a collaborative project by Startacus and Revolve Comics, in partnership with major sponsors, Alchemy Technology Services, Derry City and Strabane District Council and North West Regional College.

In addition, Startacus is delighted to announce that Seagate Technology, Ulster University, Bring I.T. On and RealTime Recruitment are supporting the comic and event as community sponsors.

Alastair Cameron, Startacus co-founder said:

“Young people are not necessarily always as interested in the traditional ways that we use to highlight career opportunities and the range of roles that are available in the tech sector. A more inclusive and young-adult focused approach is required and comic storytelling is a great visual way of doing that – to share knowledge, improve understanding and to inspire.

We believe that this innovative approach to championing tech roles and careers will help signpost local students to fantastic opportunities in these exciting and fast growing sectors. We are proud of the collaborative approach this initiative has taken, working with partners who are fully committed to helping inspire our young people.”

There are a limited number of tickets available for students from schools in the Derry and Strabane area to watch the event in-person at The Nerve Centre; those interested in attending should contact alastair@startacus.net for further details.

Schools, further education providers and all young people interested in a career in the tech sector are also encouraged to register for the live stream that will be broadcast from The Nerve Centre in Derry~Londonderry from 10.30am on 10th March.
