Rory is a commercial law solicitor, recognised as a market leader in IT, internet and software law. Over the last twenty-four years he has advised leading UK, ROI and US public and private sector businesses on the licensing and protection of software. In 2007 Rory set up Forde Campbell with Mathew Forde as a specialist Northern Irish tech firm – ten years later the firm is recognised by UK legal industry bibles Legal 500 and Chambers as a top tier IP and IT practice. Rory specialises in data protection, and is a self-confessed standard bearer for the GDPR as part of the business culture of the future – as opposed to a one-off compliance nightmare. In particular, Rory focusses on the realities of data’s use within technology, arguing that the benefits of practical GDPR processes and a privacy by design approach heavily outweigh the over-hyped risk of penalties. As a lawyer advising company boards for over two decades, and separately as long-standing board member and audit committee chair of the Community Relations Council, Rory believes that GDPR has placed the use and protection of personal data permanently onto the company risk register and board meeting agenda.
